Field Friday group at Duck Pond

Volunteers are the heart of Whatcom Land Trust and make what we do possible! Our common bond is a deep love of this land and the passion and dedication to protect it. The Land Trust has over 5,000 acres to manage and limited staff to do so. Without the help of our volunteers, stewarding this land would be impossible.

In March 2020, because of the pandemic, we made the decision to cancel our annual volunteer appreciation event, as well as other volunteer programs. Yet our volunteers longed to get outside again, and we realized we needed to think outside the box. Keeping their physical and mental health in mind, we reduced our normal group size to five volunteers, required social distancing and face coverings, and continued to host small Work Parties and Field Fridays. After training that included safety protocols, volunteers were also given the opportunity to lead their own work parties. More than 30 such parties were hosted.

Our volunteers allow us to keep growing and impacting this wonderful place we call home. Thank you!
