In 2007, the third-generation farmers gave a wonderful gift to Whatcom County residents: nearly 23 acres of their 270-acre family farm was set aside for use as a county park, with Whatcom Land Trust receiving the conservation easement to protect the natural values of the property.

The Jensen Family Forest Park shares a remnant of the forest that once covered lowland Whatcom County. Towering 100-year-old Douglas firs provide habitat for hawks, owls and other raptors, as well as cover for deer, coyote, bobcat and other native species. Other tree species found there include Sitka spruce, western red cedar, western hemlock and wild cherry. The under story includes red elderberry, trailing blackberry, wild roses, red huckleberry and a variety of ferns. The property provides an easy, flat hiking trail in an area of the county that has few parks or recreation sites.

It really boils down to this, that all life is interrelated. We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied to a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly affects all indirectly. — Martin Luther King, Jr.
