WHERE WE WORK

WLT’s conservation projects range from simple donations of conservation easements to complex public-private partnerships to acquire land for wildlife habitat, parks and farmland. Whatcom Land Trust has completed 145 conservation transactions over the past 27 years.  Our conservation plan focuses on four targets: 1) intact, functioning ecosystems 2) farms and other working lands 3) salmon, eagle and elk habitat 4) shorelines.  We have worked successfully with private land owners, state and local governments, Native American tribal governments, Western Washington University, large corporations such as ARCO, British Petroleum and B.C. Hydro, and timber companies, including Crown Pacific, and Hampton and Affiliates.

Home, after all, is the place where finally we make our living. It is the place for which we take responsibility, the place we try to sustain so we can pass on what is best in it, and in ourselves, to our children. — William Cronon
