With the intent to preserve and protect forever its beauty and natural habitat, the Brinn family first granted a conservation easement, and then donated the land to the Bellingham Greenways program. The Interurban Trail runs along the southern border of the property.
Trees in the area include Douglas fir, western red cedar, western hemlock, red alder and big-leaf maple. The understory varies, but consists mainly of Oregon grape, salal, sword fern and other native species. Both pileated and downy woodpeckers have been observed on the property, as well as waterfowl and other bird species. Small mammals, amphibians and reptiles also are present in the area.
