
Whatcom County's newest saltwater park was made possible with the help of th Department of Ecology. With a grant from Ecology, Whatcom Land Trust purchased 48 acres of surplus waterfront property from BC Hydro and traded it to The Trillium Corporation for 54 acres of forested wetlands and 1,900 feet of saltwater beach.

The property supports a Great Blue Heron colony of about 230 nests, although the number of nests can vary greatly from year to year. Purpose of the easement is to protect the long-term viability of the heron colony. The birds are sensitive to disturbance.
