Mr. Miller was at the meeting in the basement of Dutch Mothers restaurant when the trust was formed, and the easement on his property was the first one completed. The easement protects the scenic and agricultural values of the land by fostering responsible agricultural processes and limiting residential use.

Early this year long-time county residents Nate and Phyllis Kronenberg donated a conservation easement on their rural homesite near Everson to Whatcom Land Trust. The easement limits residential development of their forested tract and protects the gracefully maturing forest of Douglas-firs, cedars and hemlocks that Nate has carefully tended over the years.

Third-generation farmers have given a wonderful legacy to Whatcom County residents. Nearly 23 acres of their 300-acre family farm has been set aside for use as a county park, with Whatcom Land Trust receiving the conservation easement to protect the natural values of the property.
